VirGen is a Comprehensive Viral Genome Resource developed at the Bioinformatics Centre, University of Pune. The latest release of the database has been made available on the Centre's website on April 5, 2004. Five new viral families viz., Rhabdoviridae, Paramyxoviridae, Bornaviridae and Filoviridae having-ssRNA genome and Narnaviridae with naked RNA genome have been added to VirGen in its latest release v1.4. With this the total number of annotated and curated families in VirGen goes up to 15 and the number of complete genomes to 1158. The host range of viruses archived in VirGen includes bacteria , animals and plants.
